Samba and Choro Workshops at AMC
The quest for survival among the low-income population is the key issue in our community’s everyday life. Since the adults are always busy trying to solve their own personal problems, there is this sense of isolation within the community which we find important to address for the benefit of our children’s education.
Family disaggregation is a complex issue for the children, making their integration with the adults, families, schools and communities even more difficult.
Our Samba and Choro Workshops project promotes the contact of our students with prominent composers and musicians, who are well known for their involvement with our cultural roots. They are regularly invited to visit our school, and they are always and exclusively accompanied by our own instructors who are currently working towards their professionalization as musicians. By doing so, AMC creates an environment that fosters not only our students’ musical development, but also the much-needed opportunities to perform with other experienced musicians and have their own work recognized outside the school, opening up new paths for them in their professionalization process.
These workshops have generated a great many valuable musical encounters of renowned composers, musicians, students and members of our community who believe in our Music School commitment with excellence in musical education, based on the powerful richness of our cultural roots.
